This cartoon depicts a man driving a wedding limo, while a
crowed is assembled displaying anti- gay slogans. The limo driver then asked,
“What’s a nice girl like you doing in a group like this?” Referring to the
statue of liberty or Lady Liberty among the crowed wearing a band stating 1st
Amendment. This cartoon relates to the 1st Amendments right to
assembly because the crowd of protesters was displaying hate speech, and Lady
Liberty was among the group to show that it is there constitutional right to
voice their opinion. Lady liberty is not in the crowd in support of the actual
speech, she is in support of the crowd’s right to speak their mind.
This article is mostly about the reasons behind the demonstration
in Wisconsin. While only six months into his term as governor, Mr. Walker
decided to cut spending by eliminating union power to negotiate. The threat of wage
cuts lead many people to protest on the steps of the capital in what the author
calls an uprising. This relates to the 1st amendment right to
assemble because the angry demonstrators did not like a policy that their
governor was going to implement, so they voiced their opinion on the steps of
the state capitol hopping for a change. Their first amendment -right to
assemble gives them the power to stand of their government when they feel
something is unfair, and in that is exactly what the protestors were doing.
